I started the year with one goal in mind: reading as many books as I could by the end of 2020.
If I Never Met You is one of those feel-good stories that is perfect for these social-distancing days when the days all seem to blend into one.

If I Never Met You
Laurie is a 36 year old lawyer who lives with her boyfriend, Dan, of 18 years. They have the perfect love story. They met in college, fell in love and have been together ever since.
But what happens when he suddenly feels trapped? And the urge to escape the comfortable life they’ve created for themselves becomes too strong?
Laurie is left with a broken heart, a big and expensive house and the torture of having to see Dan everyday at work. To make matters worse? He has already found a replacement for Laurie.
And that’s when Jaime Carter, the playboy of the company, comes into play with a very appealing proposal..
I enjoyed reading If I Never Met You very much.
As I’ve already said it’s a feel-good kind of book, but at the same time talks about the difficult childhoods and relationships the characters had to face in their lives.
One thing that the book made me think of is how much emotional baggage we drag around and into a new relationship even without realizing it.
One of the main reasons Laurie doesn’t trust Jaime is because she doesn’t want to go through the same pain Dan left her with. And Jaime doesn’t want to get close to people because of his own traumas.
How do you learn to drop the baggage and let someone else into your life? It’s not easy, communication is what drew them closer to each other and love is what made them choose to fight for each other even when pride got in the way.
If I Never Met You tells the story of two co-workers, two strangers, who leaned on each other for their own interest and ended up finding much more valuable: love.
I’m a romantic at heart and love stories always make me happy, but my favourite ones will always be those involving friendships turning into something more.
