Last week I went back home to Rome for a couple of days. Every time I go back, even if it is just for two days, I always find that the air has such a different smell from any other place I’ve been to and it always takes me back to my childhood.
There’s a special smell in the air, a different smell for every season.
I remember when I was younger, and still living in Italy, I could always tell when Spring was coming, March brought that fresh, clean, floral smell into my room and every morning I couldn’t wait to go outside and take a deep breath and enjoy the air.
There’s a Special Smell in the Air
I haven’t lived in Italy for about seven years now and every year I wish I could go back in March or April just to smell that special Spring air again.
We link special smells to memories and experiences we’ve lived through and some smells I wish I could bottle up and keep with me forever. Maybe that’s why some of us love perfumes so much. It’s a form of nostalgia and spraying a little bit of a specific fragrance around us makes us feel closer to a person, or better, a memory that’s been lost in the past.
