Wedding season is beginning and with it all the last-minute choices and preparations are coming to a close. One of the biggest and usually most difficult choices a bride is bound to make is regarding the “wedding dress.” The dress should be purchased six to nine months before the wedding, so that any alteration and changes the dress needs can be done in time.
For most brides, the purchase of the wedding dress is one of the most exciting parts of a wedding. It’s the gown in which they will make their grand entrance and for many, probably the most expensive dress they will ever buy.
Nowadays, there are so many different styles to choose from that it can be confusing to sort through all of them, this is why we need to narrow down the options to what we like and what we wouldn’t mind trying on.
Here are a few choices to look at in your hunt for “the one.”

- Brides on a Budget: Some brides like to spend a little less on the dress and save their money for some other parts of the wedding. In this case, the bride can find her dress in the J.Crew line or a second hand store. Sometimes they sell gowns for half the price and devolve the profits to charity. I remember walking in one of these stores last year in Toronto called The Bride’s Project , an organization that focuses on selling dresses and raises money to fight cancer. In the end you not only feel good for finding your dress, but you also know you’re helping other people.
- The Classic Bride: These brides usually look for a traditional wedding dress, the one they have been dreaming of since they were little. Ballgowns, lace dresses, mermaid style, long, dreamy dresses that designers such as Marchesa and Monique Lhuillier know something about.
- Ready to Elope: Short dresses are the best choice for those brides a little more adventurous and daring. Short dresses are a good choice when it comes to wedding on the beach and for those couples who want a private celebrations and are travel lovers. Alfred Angelo and Delphine Manivet create gorgeous short wedding gowns.
- Unconventional Brides: For those brides who don’t like to follow traditions and want to follow their own style, gowns such as the ones Vera Wang creates are a good place to start from. Crop tops and long skirts can also be a different, original way of dressing up for your special day, even better if it’s in a colour other than white.
- The Formal Attire: For brides who aren’t dress lovers or want to simply feel comfortable during their “Big Day,” a suit can be the right option. Sleek and elegant, Carolina Herrera is the designer to look at for this style.
