You know what’s the best part of being a guest at a wedding? You have complete freedom in what you decide to wear, as long as you don’t show up wearing track pants or worse, a white dress! That’s just a “no-no” in my books!
After receiving an invitation to attend a wedding, the first thought that passes my mind is: “what am I going to wear? Should I go for the classic dress or go for a modern twist and wear a suit?” How do you decide what is the best garment option? I suggest to congratulate the couple first and then ask the bride if she already has an idea of what the wedding’s theme might be and what style she has in mind. It is a big hint and can help you narrow down the options you were already thinking of.
What do I wear to a wedding?
1: Lace dress. Lace is one timeless fabric that is always perfect for a formal event and when wedding season comes around you can always count on it. Kate Spade knows how to perfectly dress a girl in a classy and chic manner. This lace dress is a great example of her renown style.
2: Separates. Dresses are usually the norm, but a crop top and a midi skirt can go a long way when you just can’t find the right dress. A midi skirt can be a great piece to combine with a crop top, especially if you aren’t too confident when it comes to your mid section. A midi skirt covers the part that the crop top wouldn’t creating a dress effect. This Ted Baker separates is a great example of how elegant these two pieces can be when combined.
3: Structured Jacket. Sometimes we don’t want to wear a dress and in this cases, a structured suit is the best option. It is elegant and it can still be feminine with that added touch of masculinity. Here, BCBG Max Azria showcases an excellent example of suiting up.
4: Elegant Jumpsuit. Another great clothing piece to consider for a wedding is an elegant jumpsuit. It obviously can’t have a casual flare, but when combined with tulle or lace like this one from Zara, it sure is a good option for a wedding.

I really like the lace dress for a wedding. It’s just something special for a special day. Even if it’s not your wedding.

Hi Heidi, I completely agree, there are some things you shouldn’t wear to a wedding but thankfully, lace is not one of them 🙂

I have 2 weddings currently to attend this summer and I usually go with my little black dress, but I’m trying to find something more colorful for one of them. Wish me luck.
